Location: Libbie Mill Library 2100 Libbie Lake East St. Richmond, VA
Who should attend: Paraprofessionals

This training is designed for paraprofessionals who have already taken the PARAPro online course or live training that meets the requirements of HB 325.  This training is intended to use information already learned and expand knowledge and skills.

When a paraprofessional is assigned to a classroom for students with autism or an individual student with autism professional development is required to assist the student in meeting their full potential. It is important that the IEP goals are wriiten to help foster as much independence as possible for the student. When too much support is in place it can have negative effects on the student such as social isolation, failure to develop self-regulation behaviors, and/or over dependence on adults.

The concepts and practices presented in the Part II PARA Pro include:

  • How to analyze the school day to identify
  • what a student can do without assistance
  • what accommodations/modifictions can be made
  • what natural support is already available
  • how classroom paraprofessional support can be utilzed

The training starts at 9:30 and ends at 3:30. Lunch is on your own
