Individuals with ASD are more vulnerable to mental health diagnoses. Specifically, research reports that between 64-71% of individuals with ASD also have a mental health diagnosis. This can lead to very confusing behaviors and responses that change on a monthly, weekly, or even daily basis. This also presents barriers to educational progress and making educational plan implementation very difficult. This session will provide an overview of the impact of mental health diagnoses and ASD. It will also provide information on educational and behavioral techniques that may be helpful to teachers serving students with ASD and mental health challenges.
