VARC Autism Training

Description

This training is a self-paced online course. The course is provided by the Virginia Autism Resource Center at Virginia Commonwealth University's Autism Center.

To participate, you need a computer with (preferably high-speed) internet access, and speakers or headphones to listen to the presentations (full text transcripts are provided for all lectures and multimedia).

Course Overview

During this self-paced course, you will learn about working with persons with Autism. The course is divided into 4 modules, each contains Part 1 and Part 2, that will provide you with information on:

Introduction to Working with Persons with Autism

Module 2 - Behavior and Sensory Strategies

  • Part 1 - Interfering Behaviors
  • Part 2 - Strategies and Plans

Module 3 - Communication and Social Skills

  • Part 1 - Communication
  • Part 2 - Social Skills

Module 4 - Building Independence and Inclusion

  • Part 1 - Independence and Inclusion
  • Part 2 - Community Inclusion

Certificate of Completion

Upon completion of the course in its entirety, you will be eligible for a Certificate of Completion. This requires you to complete each module by viewing each presentation and reading any associated documents, articles, and web pages. You will then need to certify that you have completed the course and your certificate will be emailed to you.
